RE: Irregular Bleeding Anyone?

I read in the discussion section, posted by cl-judie this month....
Does this mean that if you are bleeding every month at the same time, 3rd week of active pills and it stops the very day before you start the inactive pills that you are okay? I want to ensure I read it correctly. I am not getting another bleed during inactive pills so is it okay not to use backup at any time? I just want to be absolutely sure because I have been on the pill for 4 months now and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt now that I get my period on the Monday of my 3rd week (actives) and it ends on Saturday (day before inactives) Thanks to anyone who can reassure me or clarify.

The same thing happens to me! I'm on Loestrin 1/20. I've been on it for 4 months and I get my "period" the first or second day of my third week of active pills and nothing on the placebo week.
I asked my doctor and he said I am experiencing breakthrough bleeding. He said we'd give it another 2 months (this was last month so I get one more month) and we would switch if it continues to happen. I really would like to keep taking Loestrin, my body is used to it now and I haven't experienced any weird side effects...but I want to be 100% sure it's working! We'll see what happens next month.
I'll post my doc's recommendation next month :)

Thanks for your reply. You and I are having the same exact problem. I am taking the generic version of Loestrin 1/20; Junel fe 1/20. Unlike your doctor, my doctor told me that I may always get my period during the third week of the pills and that is normal for me. She said that as long as I was consistent every month I should be okay. I just get paranoid and post my worries on these boards all the time. Also, exactly like you, I really would like to keep taking the generic version of Loestrin, because my body is used to it now and my side effects are gone too. I used to get horrible headaches in addition to mood swings.. always crying, and this is the first month that I have been normal again and as I mentioned before, I too am on my 4th month. I wonder if Loestrin and its generics all have same effects as this isn't the first time I have heard from other Loestrin users with a period on the active weeks and never on the inactives. Thanks again... once again the kind responses to my posts have made me feel more at ease. Best to you.
The only times I personally would be truly concerned about breakthrough bleeding is if my periods were totally erratic and didn't correspond to where I was in my pill pack.
Thank you for your reply. I actually went to my doctor because I was having my period on the third week of the active pills only and never during the inactives (in fact it stopped that very day before I finished my actives for the month every time) and she said that it was normal for me and I would probably never get AF during the inactives. She suggested I could change the pill if I would rather get my period during the inactives.. I think she was going to give me one with more progestin (or something like that) but as I had been having (the first three months) very severe headaches and depression, she was reluctant to change the pill because she said I could very well have another 3 months of side effects with a new pill. She mentioned that if I was okay with my period on the third week that I should just stick to the Microgestin... which has now been changed to Junel. By the way, you mentioned that they were both generics of Loestrin and I am happy to report that when I was switched, it went very smoothly. I am going to start my fifth month on the pill in one week.. I had Microgestin for 3 months and now am going to start my second month of Junel. All is fine with me. Thanks again for the reply.
We are going through the same thing! I got my period last Sunday and I ended today (one day before my last active pill). My doctor also said that as long as I'm taking the pill everyday I should be protected. But it concerns me that he wants to see me next month if I get my period on the third week...I am still taking Microgestin, I wonder if it hasn't been changed here yet.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks again for replying. Let me know what your doctor says because mine doesn't want to see me anymore regarding this. She did not say that but she told me that this was normal for me and a change in pill was not necessary unless I felt uncomfortable getting my period on third week. Honestly, I don't care which week it falls on so long as it is only once a month and I am still protected. If your doctor wants to see you again if it happens again then I have to wonder if something is wrong with us! ;-) I am surprised you can still get Microgestin. My pharmacist told me it was replaced by Junel and I go to my local Walmart pharmacy. I have a feeling they (Walmart only) no longer carry it and that is why he said that. I would have had my prescription transferred, maybe that's why he didn't tell me. I really liked Microgestin because it came in a nice little case and the Junel comes in a vinyl pocket which I don't like. You too have a great weekend.
