I noticed in the above section, a post where Judie talks about common side effects of the pill. I have a question about one thing she mentioned as follows: Water retention, which can be temporary or persistent, might appear as bloating around the waistline. This is caused by the action of the estrogen in the kidneys telling them not to get rid of so much water. The birth control pill Yasmin has a progestin that tends to counteract this effect and may have less probability of water retention.

My question is: If you drink alot of water while on the pill, will you retain more water because the kidneys may be holding on to excess water??

In general, drinking *less* water is more likely to make you retain water. Backwards as it sounds, if you give your body plenty of water to work with, it is *more* likely to flush it through & not retain extra. Note.... don't significantly up your water consumption all in one day or you'll feel water logged, possibly briefly bloated, & likely running to the bathroom *a lot*, increasse your water consumption over several days so that your body can acclimatize.
