Breakthrough bleeding

Good morning!

I have a question regarding breakthrough bleeding. I just started my first pack of BC pills this month. I'm currently on my third week of active pills. I didn't have any side effects until the beginning of this week. One of them has been breakthrough bleeding. My doctor told me that I would probably experience some minor spotting, which would probably clear up in 2 or 3 months. I've been spotting now for 4 straight days. It's similar to what the last day of my normal period is like. I guess my question is... will I experience breakthrough bleeding for the entire 2 or 3 months- all month long? Is it more common right before your period is supposed to start?

Thanks! Your board has been very helpful to me!

Hi Angel,

Just wanted you to know that I have been on my birth control pill for 4 months now and starting my next pack in one week and I have always gotten my period during the third week of active pills and never on the inactives. You said you've been spotting for 4 days now, I usually spot for the entire third week and it stops the very day before I start the inactive pills. I think the same thing is happening to me that is happening to you... When you say 'It's similar to what the last day of my normal period is like." If you mean it's brown or almost black in color, that's what I get every single month. I realize it's too much information but since I've been on the pill I have never had red blood; always brown. Sorry... (this is the reason I picked blushing as my emoticon). Anyhow, my doctor said that I may never get period during inactive weeks but as long as I get a period at the same time every month (even if on the third week) that I should be fine. I hope this helps a bit even though I know you got excellent advise from Judie..take care.
