How can I find out if there's a generic brand to the bcp that I'm taking? Can I ask the pharmacist, or do I have to go back to the doctor to do this?

Thanks!

Hi angel27girl, welcome!

Your druggist should certainly be able to answer your question. You can also check CL-Judie’s post “Your pills and what’s in them” in the FAQ folder at the top of the board and see if your pills and other similar ones are listed. It’s a pretty complete list with 85 combined pills, 6 progestin only pills and 2 transdermal methods. Let us know if yours is there, ok? Thanks for posting.

Good luck,

Thanks for your quick response. So, if there is a generic brand to my pill, when I go to pick up my next pack, can I ask the pharmacist for the generic instead of name brand?

Ask your pharmacist. It may depend on how your Rx was written, and of course if there is a generic and if the generic is carried by your pharmacy. To avoid any disappointment I'd call and ask ahead of time.

Good luck,

Or if you tell us what you're taking, we might know the answer... ;)
