new to depo...

I have been taking depo for nearly three months. I have had irregular bleeding almost everyday throughout this time period. About 2 weeks ago, I had some major bleeding...maybe about twice as usual and it was on time only. I have otherwise just had minor bleeding everyday. Lets just say that freaked me out.
I have decided not to continue using birth control. We have decided to try and get pregnant. I am afraid that:
1. The irregular bleeding might have caused some damage
2. Wondering how long before it could take for my body to readjust
3. When should I start taking prenatal vitamins, including folic acid?
4. I am 32

Irregular bleeding can be a common side effect on Depo. I don’t think the bleeding caused any damage but you might want to ask your doctor for his or her professional opinion about that. The Depo patient information on website: http://www.depoprovera.com/index.asp# has this to say about a user’s return to fertility.
“Return of Fertility
Because DEPO-PROVERA Contraceptive Injection is a long-acting birth control method, it takes some time after your last injection for its effect to wear off. Based on the results
from a large study done in the United States, of those women who stop using DEPO-PROVERA Contraceptive Injection in order to become pregnant, about half of those
who become pregnant do so in about 10 months after their last injection; about two-thirds of those who become pregnant do so in about 12 months, about 83% of those who become pregnant do so in about 15 months, and about 93% of those who become pregnant do so in about 18 months after their last injection. The length of time you use
DEPO-PROVERA Contraceptive Injection has no effect on how long it takes you to become pregnant after you stop using it”.
It is not too early to begin prenatal vitamins now. Best wishes for success in TTC,
Hugs,
