Please help reassure me if you can... I'm in my first month on Yasmin, and started the white pills today. I have been 100% all month taking my pills at the same time every day. Starting Thursday, I took some Tylenol and ibuprofen for pain (including a dose at the hospital, not sure how high it was). A couple of times last weekend and once yesterday, my boyfriend and I had unprotected intercourse, and today I had some light bleeding. Is there any possibility that the painkillers could have reduced the effectiveness of my pill? Was it stupid to go without a back-up method before I was used to being on the pill?

I'm also concerned because they took an x-ray at the hospital and I said there was no possibility I was pregnant; what if I was wrong?

I'm very worried about a pregnancy at this point as it is not the right time and we have been extremely careful until the past two weeks. Also, if that is the case, could there have been a danger from the x-ray even with the lead apron over my stomach?

I am on Seasonale but have been on other BCP's. I have taken high doses of Ibuprofin for years for back pain and have not had a problem with my pills. I think its just antibiotics that can cause a problem.

Also, with most BCP, you are protected from about the 7th day you first started taking them. So, I think your 2 weeks of not being "careful" (I assume this means using another plan?) are probably just fine.

Hope so!

I've been on yasmin and I too have had something similiar to what you have. I also had breakthrough bleeding my first 2 months on the pill. I would get my period before I was on the white pills. The Dr. said it is completely normal and expected in the beginning of taking a new pill.

I have had 2 periods per month on Yasmin. I'm only on the 3rd month of Yasmin. My post is above....read it to hear my horror story!! Yasmin has had me breakthrough bleeding every month since I've been on it. I'm on my 3rd month & am hoping that it stops. I was also told that just because you have breakthrough bleeding, this does not effect the ...well, effectiveness of the pill.

I appreciate all the responses. My period came this morning, so I'm presuming I'm not pregnant. I definitely don't think we're going to go without a condom anymore until we're married, though... it may feel great, but it's just not worth the risk. Thanks again for your advice.

I was sorry to hear about such a bad experience you had with Yasmin, I hope that doesn't happen to me!
