I'm new here...my name is Aly. I'm 23 yrs old and I just had surgery on July first for 'extensive endometriosis" I just got back from my post-op visit with my gyn. He said he wanted to put me on BCPs to help with the pain, etc. He gave me 2 sample packs of Ortho-Tricyclen Lo. My question is......I started my period on Thursday, July 15th, so can I start taking the pills today or do I have to wait until I start my next period? I really dont' want to do that because of the pain that is associated with my periods...I was hoping by starting the pill now, the pain for my next cycle would be less intense. (BTW: I am not taking the pill to prevent pregnancy, so 'the protection' from pregnancy is not an issue for me). Thanks in advance for your help!!!!

You can start right away! Since you won't be starting on the first day of your period, if you were going to use OTC-Lo for contraception you should use back-up for at least the first 7 days of correct pill use. Then you will be protected from pregnancy. Your periods will be different, possibly shorter, lighter and arriving on a different schedule than when you were cycling naturally. I hope OTC-Lo controls the symptoms of Endo. well for you. Thanks for stopping by. You’ll let us know how you’re doing, right?
Good luck,
Jill
