Blood Clot from The Pill???

I was on the pill for about 4 years. I have been off for about 4 months. I started having pain in my calf about 3 weeks ago. The muscle was sore like it needed to be stretched. I tried stretching it, but that didn't work. It didn't hurt that bad so I moved on with my life. The other day I woke up and it was really sore and has been like that for about 3 days now. I can't put much pressure on it, I limp around. and it is sensitive to touch. I was just wondering if maybe I could have a blood clot since I was on the pill. What are the symptoms?

Hi, s1r1w1, welcome!

If I were you I’d talk with your doctor right away. For healthy nonsmoking women the risk of a clot is very low. You may have just pulled something but you need to have it checked out. For symptoms of a clot see:

Hugs,

Hi...! I had to respond to your post...I had something similar happen to me on July 4. I had been having a strain in my right calf for several weeks and then BOOM! I was stepping up a ladder and it felt like someone hit me with a wrench. I went to the doctor about four days later and she gave me an ultrasound to test for a blood clot. Apparently when you have a pain in your calf, it's best to get it checked out for a clot (I didn't know that until I started to research it out on the net). I, too, was on birth control for a while in my 20's and part of my 30's. I recently took Emergency Contraception, which contains a high dose of BCP, and started up again on a very low dose of BCP that week that it happened. Needless to say, I quit taking the BCP and am happy to report I did not have a clot, just a nasty muscle tear that is actually feeling much better two weeks later.

I would call my doc to see what he/she says. It will put your mind at ease.

Best wishes!

Wow! Thanks so much for responding. Your story makes me feel a lot better. I think I'll go to the doctor just in case, but at least I know that there is a good possibility that its nothing serious. Did they do the ultrasound the same day at the doctors office? And should I go to my family doctor? Thanks so much.

Hi! Yes, my doctor looked at my leg and it had a lot of bruising on it...she said with a blood clot you are usually looking for hot spots and redness (which I didn't have); however, she is a pretty good doc and she said, "Let's just be sure it's nothing more and do an ultrasound." So, I did go that same day to the hospital to get the ultrasound done. My doc called me the next day and said it was just a really bad muscle tear (which I could actually see on the ultrasound).

Best wishes...I'm sure you're fine! Take care!
