Question Re Mirena IUD/Bleeding

Hi Ladies,

This is my first time posting on this board so I hope that I do this right. I had the Mirena IUD fitted in December after the birth of my 4 child. I expierenced irregular bleeding for about 3 months and in March I no longer had a period or bleeding. However, I have just started a "period" last week which seemed "typical" if I were having them. My question is should I be concerned that I have had a period or is this normal? I had been having a lot of pregnancy symptoms over the past two weeks, but it was ruled out by a HPT and at the doctors office. To make things worse I am having a lot of pain in my ovaries. Does this mean that the IUD is not working properly???? I have never used an IUD before and this was recommended by my OBGYN since my husband and I are only in our mid twenties and did not want any type of permanet sterilization.

Thanks for any input!

If you're hurting,I think you should talk with your dr....but I've had the Mirena for almost 1 year now.I had irregular periods for the first few months (2 each month lasting 2 weeks each and coming 2 weeks apart)--but that's somewhat normal for most people....I had regular periods after that but each one got lighter and lighter to where I was basicly "spotting" for a few days each month as a period.I went from using a double pack of kotex overnights pads to using a few pantiliners each month. But I haven't had a period since the last week in May.I took a HPT and it was negative.I talked to my dr via phone and she said as long as the strings are where I can feel them there shouldn't be a pregnancy worry if I don't have a period. She said I could have one "every now and then" or NOT AT ALL....It's one of the side effects of having the mirena--not having a period. My DH keeps asking "are you sure you're not pregnant?" :) I've kind of had funny little things that worry me (nauseausness, tender nipples....) but I'm hoping they are PMS symptoms and nothing more....That's been my experience.

Hi there!

I am also a first time IUD user and like you I have four children but didn't want permenant birthcontrol because I am still in my 20's. I had spotting for about two-three months after I got my IUD too. Since then I have not had a period. It has been fantastic but I am constantly worring that I am pregnant too. I was thinking maybe your pain was ovulation pain. I have also had small periods of cramping each time I tough I was starting my period and then I wouldn't. Anyways, I would give it some time and let your body get used to it.

Best of luck!!
