unusual discharge on depo

Hello,

I posted this message on the Gynecology board as well, but I was hoping someone here would be able to help too!

I have been on the depo-provera shot for nearly 4 years. I had a short, normal period at the beginning of June (I will have a period about every three months or so) Anyway, I had my yearly pap/pelvic mid-June and everything was fine. I spotted after the pap for about a week (doc said that's normal). I have spotted a bit here and there since then, but this week I have developed an unusual discharge. I hate to be graphic, but it's very thick (like mucous) and is tinted a slightly dark brownish-red. It happens every few days and there is not a lot of it. I have never had this before. I have had very mild cramping - nothing unbearable. Last week my breasts felt a little tender - like they do around period time.

I called the doctor last week about the spotting and talked to a nurse. She just said it was normal on depo. I know this, but it hasn't happened to me before! I felt a little brushed off....

Has anyone else ever had this experience with discharge? Should I be concerned about anything? I am sexually active with my fiancee, but I always get my shot within the alloted time period, so I highly doubt I am pregnant. I haven't had any morning sickness or anything else... Should I call the doctor again and ask about the discharge now? (I swear if I call again and get brushed off, I'm getting a new doctor!!!)

Ideas?

Thank you!!

I was on the depo for 6 years and had that from time to time as well. I am not a doctor but if I remember correctly my doctor told me it is your body cleaning itself out since you have a "normal" period. I would say if it continues for an extended period of time or you get other side effects to call the doctor again. It is hard sometimes being on the depo since you dont have a regular period but other things happen so it is easy to worry becuase you are not use to it.
