Hey Everyone,
I have already posted this on another board, but I thought I'd post it here as well. I did a bug "uh oh" the other day. Okay, so here's what happened. On Tuesday I had forgotten to take my pill at the proper time (I usually never forget...but some how my alarm did not go off) instead I ended up taking it about 6 1/2 hours behind schedule. Later on that night my bf and I had sex and he came in me...I know I know...bad, bad, bad. I had totally forgotten that I had taken my pill late. How much of an increase is there for me to get pregnant due to this situation? Is it a drastic or minor increase? Please help, I have been thiking about this for the past 3 days...now I need some input from others. I know that I screwed up, so please just lend me your advice...not a counseling session. Thank you to all that reply to this post. Have a wonderful day.

A very late pill (6 1/2 hours) is not a good thing, as Martha might say. No one can say how much the late pill may have reduced your protection. However, you are probably ok as far as the IC that evening is concerned. The reason I say that is that if the dip in your hormone levels did trigger the ovulation process it would take several days for ovulation itself to occur. Under unfertile conditions sperm can only live in the vagina for a few hours, so even if you ovulated, by that time his sperm would be dead. Until recently the FDA said that no back-up was necessary when one pill was missed (and you were only late) so I don’t think you aren’t in much danger. You'll let us know how you're doing, right?
Good luck,
Jill
