Time to switch?

Hello All! I have been on Depo for 5 years and for me it has been a godsend. I used to have horrible cramps that kept me in bed and overdosing on tylenol. Now, after a little spotting the first year. I am period and pain free. I did have the weight gain (10 lbs) but that was a fair trade. I was lucky with no mood swings. BUT, my sex drive has become so low that I am seroiusly considering a new option. I need to keep the periods down. I am not too concerned with the weight gain. Is there something out there any of you have tried that will bring up the sex drive to at least a normal level but still stop the periods? Thanks for any advice

Hi e6dw, welcome!

There are a great many pills to choose from and since we are all different a pill that one woman might love could be a bad choice for another, so finding the right pill can involve some trial and error. Are you thinking you will want to skip periods? If so you will probably do better on a monophasic pill, one that has the same dosage of hormones in all 21 active pills. There are also the patch and the ring. Ortho Evra, the patch, is a series of three patches each worn for a week and a patch-free week on the fourth week for your period. The ring, NuvaRing, is a single vaginal ring worn for three weeks and removed for one for your period. Decreased libido can be a problem for some women on most all hormonal methods. It would be a good idea to talk with your doctor about which hormonal methods have worked well for the majority of his or her patients and be guided by your doc's experience. Let us know which you choose, ok?

Good luck,
