Is there any difference between Alesse & Aviane? I read the post on what is in your pills, did not see any difference there. But I am wondering if there is just something slightly different because Aviane is generic. Thanks!

Hi nchristinzio,

The two are therapeutically equivalent. There may be very slight differences (within the guidelines established by the FDA) and some of the inert ingredients may be different. To see what the FDA has to say about generic drugs, see: http://www.fda.gov/cder/consumerinfo/generics_q&a.htm Does this help?

Thanks for posting,

Other than what Jill mentioned (the possibility of the inert ingredients being different and permissible differences allowed by the FDA), the only real difference between Alesse and Aviane is the companies that make them. Alesse is made by Wyeth-Ayerst and Aviane is made by Barr Laboratories.
