Controlling my period

Hi, everyone. I have a question.
My boyfriend and I are going on vacation together, just the two of us (finally! we both need it!), however our vacation is scheduled...conveniently enough...for the week I start my period. I've been told that it's perfectly fine to skip the reminder pills and move right on to the orange ones so as to control when I have my period. I just wanted to check with you guys, and ask if it's really safe, both for skipping my period and preventing pregnancy?
Thanks!
Kee

What pill are you on? Not all women can skip their periods successfully but it is easier to skip when on a monophasic pill, one that has the same dosage of hormones in all 21 active pills than if you are on a triphasic pill. It is usually quite safe to skip periods. A lot of women skip using their pills but before you try it would be best to check with your doctor to be sure there isn't a reason that s/he would want you not to skip. Let us know how you’re doing, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
