Hi,

I really hope someone can help me with this. I started taking Birth Control Pills last month. I had been on them before but I stop taking them for like a 6 months or so. Anyways I skip the last week of my pills. You know the ones that you take while on your period, and started my new pack so that I wouldnt have to deal with my period this month. Also I wanted to make sure that it wouldn't start because I am wanting to stop it next month cause I am getting married and guess what day my Wedding falls on? Yeah you guessed it the first day of my period. Ok anyways back to my question. My boyfriend and I had sex lastnight and didnt use anything, NOTHING and well have I been on the pill long enough to be safe from getting pregnant and is it ok not to use condoms or anything if you take the pill on time everyday or close to the sametime (half an hour or so apart? PLEASE ANSWER ME FAST I NEED TO KNOW.

The ladies on this board have told me that taking your pill (if it is a combined pill, such as OTC) +/- 2 hours of your regular pill taking time is still considered on-time. In other words, if your regular pill time is 10, you can take it from 8 to 12. I did not understand what you were saying on your post - so you already took your first pack and you are now on your second pack? If so, I would say you are protected. The pill inserts usually tell you how long you have to use backup for when you first start your pills - some say for the first seven days and others say for the first month. I hope this helps.

Good luck

Well, here's my two cents on your situation. First of all congrats on your wedding! Second of all, me and my boyfriend have been having sex with no other backup (just with me on the pill, TRO).

You should be safe, if you're still feeling uncomfortable about it, have him pull out, that's what I did until I finally learned to trust my pill.

It's too early to congratulate the bride-to-be, but best wishes next month!

Your protection is not compromised by taking packs back-to-back as you have, and you're smart to move your period earlier rather than trying to move it when you REALLY don't want to have any bleeding. As long as you're taking your pills on time (within that 4 hour window), not missing any, aren't taking any prescription medications that are known to conflict with the pill, and haven't had vomiting or diarrhea within 2 hours of taking a pill, you should be as protected as you're going to get after only seven days of taking the pill. So if you're four weeks into it, you should be adequately protected without using any other form of birth control!

Just so you're forewarned, though, you may still have bleeding this month even though you've skipped your inactive week and are still taking active pills. Some women can skate through a couple of packs of pills with no problem, some women can only go an extra week or two. Your protection still isn't compromised if you start bleeding, it's just annoying, and if it happens, it should stop once you go through your next inactive week and restart a new pack.

Good luck!
