Is the pill effective after a month?

Hi,

I started taking Ortho Try Cyclen two weeks ago and I was wondering, after a month (in two weeks from now) of taking the pill, is it considered effective enough to have sex without condoms at that point and not worry about pregnancy?

Also, my periods can be anywhere from 30-32 days apart .. so now that I started the pill on Day 1 of my period, does that mean it will come when I take the sugar pills? Does my body know to make my period come earlier than normal now that I'm on the pill? I hope that doesn't sound confusing.

Thanks,

Lynne

After a month of taking the pills on a pretty good schedule (+/- 2 hours according to this board), you should be fine just being on the pill. Make sure you're not on antibiotics or anything else that may lessen the effectiveness of the pill.

In fact, lots of brands are effective after 7 days, but I waited a month just to be sure!

In general - you should get your period during the sugar pills. Usually it is a couple days into the sugar pills. Give it this first month to adjust and then see how it goes... you'll have a 28 day cycle. Good luck!
