NuvaRing and scheduling periods?

I'm currently on a combo-pill and want to switch to the ring. My one concern is still being able to have the choice of scheduling my period by skipping a month as I can now by not taking the placebo pills and going straight to my next pack.

Can this be done with the ring?

Thanks.

I just started using Nuva Ring this last week and I have read all my literature on it. You are supposed to remove the ring after three weeks to have your period, but I imaging if you just start a new ring immediately, it will have the same effect as the Pill. Plus the Nuva Ring is supposed to stay effective up to four weeks so you can keep it in for that fourth week and start the next ring after that one.

Anyone out there understand something different?

I've been using the ring for a couple of months and I've discovered that if I just put in a new one at the three week mark that my period, if it comes, is very light and only lasts a day or two.

Good for you staceylynn424!

You are absolutely right! It's a very good idea to read all the literature that comes with your method so you understand the correct way to use it and what to do if there is a problem. The ring is effective for four weeks so it can be left in place an additional week as a scheduling method. Not all women can successfully skip their periods but a ring user has a very good chance of doing so.

Thanks for posting.

I think it's actually easier than with the pill to move periods around. I've been using the ring for a year and a half and I've done anything from move my period out of the work week or out of the weekend to trying to skip a period entirely.

With the ring, you're not committed to a certain number of days. Normally I'm a Sunday start, my period starts on Wednesday morning, and by Saturday I'm just spotting. This weekend (like tonight), I'm going to be out of town and didn't want to deal with the spotting, so I removed my ring last Friday and inserted a new one this morning--no period over the weekend! And if I want to go back to Sundays, I can leave this ring in the extra two days to get me back to Sunday.

If you want to just move your period by a week, it's as simple as leaving the ring in for that fourth week. If you want to move it by a couple weeks, at the normal ring removal time, you'd remove the old ring and insert a new one right away for the next three-week interval.

Yes, you can technically do all this stuff with the pill, but with the pill you have to have a spare pack to take pills out of. And if you're traveling (one example), you can insert the ring before you leave that day instead of trying to remember when to take your pill that night! I travel on occasion, and I find this really useful.

Good luck!
