Skipping period

I just had a question about skipping my period. I tried that for the first time and it worked...I am supposed to start on the second day of taking placebo pills and I didn't start...but I started bleeding about 5 days later. I was just wondering if this is normal...since this is the first time that I have tried skipping my period I didn't know how it would work. I wasn't sure if it would totally skip my period all together or just delay it like it did. Just wanting to know what the norm is and if I should be concerned about anything. I have been on the pill for about a year and a half so my body is pretty used to the pill.

Some women can skip their periods and others can’t, but a lot depends on the pill you are taking. Most women have a better chance of skipping successfully (delaying their period 3 weeks without irregular bleeding) if they are on a monophasic pill, one that has the same dosage of hormones in all 21 active pills. If the pill doesn’t have enough overall progestin activity to control the uterine lining for the entire 21 days irregular bleeding will begin earlier at the point the progestin can on longer maintain the stability of the endometrium. I don’t think you have any need for concern. If you want to totally skip you could ask your doctor about a different pill.
Good luck,
Jill
