mirena side effects/short fuse!

I have been on the Mirena for two years now. I am (or have been) very happy with it.

I am searching for connections to my severe PMS, although I don't have a period anymore.

I know I must still have a "cycle", and the PMS is out of control!I have always had a hard time with BC, and the slightest hormone changes send me over the edge. Either depression or a complete lack of patience and a very hot temper. This is not the person I am! I couldn't help my behavior with my family today. I just snapped at my kids (2 1/2 and 5 1/2) non-stop. I hate this, I feel so awful.

Anyone else suffer from similar side effects???

Thanks, Molly

I don't know if it's because of the Mirena (I've had it a year-periods come and go-I don't have them every month)...But I do have PMS...I want potato chips and chocolate and am more easily annoyed by my dh....You could talk to your dr...If you don't want to change your birth control method there might be something else that could help you.I can't think of the name of it but it's some kind of pill that is supposed to help out during the time that we (women) are most moody and "depressed"-the PMS time around period time....Maybe your dr could see if that might work for you....((HUGS)) I know how you feel....sometimes I just get plain old "MEAN" around that time of the month-for no apparent reason.(I'm on wellbutrin XL-and sometimes they double the dose for some people around "that time of the month" although not me-YET)...I hope you find something that works for you....

I've been on Mirena 14 months now, and my mood swings are increasing and becoming problematic. I get very emotional and cry a lot, just like I did on BC pills, which I haven't taken in ages for that very reason. Even the lowest dose BC pills had that effect, and I'm starting to suspect the Mirena is now doing the same thing. I started with Mirena shortly after the birth of my son, and breastfed for 9 months, so my hormone levels were off anyway during that period. Now that I'm out of the pregnancy and breastfeeding hormone cycles, I think I'm seeing the effects of the Mirena hormones. Everyone says that they are so low dose you likely wouldn't notice them, I think I'm very sensitive to them and they are affecting my moods. You may be just the same. I never resumed periods after pregnancy with the Mirena, and I swear I still have a monthly cycle, cravings and moods. Not sure what I will do, the IUD is so convenient and no worries about pregnancy. Please write more - I'd love to hear what's happening with you.
