Hi guys. I'm just wondering if there are any websites you can order birth control from. If there's not I am planning on going to a planned parenthood clinic, but it's kind of far from here and I can't go to the doctor because my mom would know.. and I don't want her to know that I'm taking BC. Anyways, if you know of any websites or anything, please let me know. Thanks a lot! :)

I am not going to be of much help, but I do know that you can order BC off the internet, but I am not sure which sites. A friend of mine does this b/c it is cheaper for insurance, but she has to buy them 3 at a time. Also, if you are planning on getting on BC, you do have to go to a doctor. The way I read your message was that you have not yet gone to the doctor. You will have to get a prescription in order to get the BC. Also, if PP is far away, check in your local area - some cities have health clinics that will do an examination and give cheap (possibly free) BC. HTH - Good luck with it. Also, I know this is hard, but consider talking to Mom about just going to the doctor. You don't have to fill her in on the BC stuff, if you don't want. If you are 18 you should probably go anyways, as that is what my doctor recommends. I never thought I could discuss BC with my mom, but I did. She wasn't crazy about me being on it, but it is nice now b/c I can talk to her about it if I have a question or something. Good luck again!

I'd really advise against trying to get birth control pills over the internet! Some places are reputable, but other places are not, and that's really not something you want to experiment with. I think there was a scare last year because an internet company was supposedly selling Ortho Evra patches for cheap, but there were no hormones in them! For some folks, it's a way to make a quick buck off of unsuspecting people.

I too would recommend doing what you need to do for your health, and deal with the consequences of your mom knowing that you're going to the doctor. If you're mature enough to have sex, you're mature enough to talk to your parents about it, right? It might be uncomfortable, but I have more than one friend who has a family history of blood clots (which means you're not supposed to take the pill) and didn't find out about it until AFTER talking to other family members. Sometimes the subject just doesn't come up, you know?

Planned Parenthood and public health clinics often have the pill at reduced prices (when compared to regular pharmacies), and mail-order through insurance is another option if transportation is an issue, but I'd stay away from the internet.

Good luck!

Hi krb2671, welcome!

You’re asking about hormonal birth control (pill, patch, ring and shot) right? You should go to Planned Parenthood as it's important that you have a doctor give you an exam and you will need a prescription. It may be a hassle getting to PP but it's for your own safety that you should be seen by a doctor before starting hormonal contraceptives. Let us know how you're doing, ok?

Good luck,
