Question about stopping the pill
| Tue, 08-03-2004 - 9:30am |
I recently started taking Cryselle and it was giving me horrible side effects so I stopped it about 3 weeks ago. I have not had a period since and I should have gotten it approximately a week ago. I realize by taking part of the month's pills and then stopping, I probably screwed up my entire ovulation cycle. Over the weekend my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex. We used the pull out method, which I know wasnt the best idea, but I figured it would be ok since my period was due over a week ago adn the chances I was ovulating then were slim. But now I"m getting paranoid because some months I can feel ovulation as a little twinge in my abdomen and I felt that yesterday. Does anyone know how long after stopping the pill you should get your period? Am I just worring too much for nothing???
Thanks!
Lou

It may take a few weeks for a woman to begin cycling again after she stops taking hormones, or it may not, it’s an individual thing. Unless you have been charting your fertile signs; basal body temperature, cervical position and cervical fluid you won’t know for sure when you ovulate. Since you stopped taking your BCPs three weeks ago you are at risk of becoming pregnant unless you have been using another effective form of contraception and withdrawal is not an effective method. If it has been less than 72 hours since the IC of concern you can take emergency contraception and have it be effective. Even up to 5 days EC can be somewhat effective so it is an option you might want to consider. It takes about 14 days after IC for a HPT to be accurate. If I were you I would start using an effective method of contraception and test after 2 weeks to see where you are. I hope you get the answer you want.
