I've been on the nuva ring for the past year and I really like how easy it is to use, but I've been plagued with constant yeast infections. I use to take ortho-novum 777 and I had yeast infections with that as well but not as much with the ring. I was wondering if theres a better option. I don't want to go back on the pill because remebering its a pain. I was considering the patch. Any imput would be great. I'm looking at my options before I go to the doctor.

Sometimes yeast infections are a response to the artificial hormones. It's a little surprising that you have fewer with the ring than Ortho Novum, as they tell us that they're more likely with the ring, but I wonder if that isn't the lower estrogen content helping? If that's the case, you won't find hormonal birth control with less estrogen than the ring unless you went the progestin-only route.

Have you tried making any changes to your diet? I know someone who can control her yeast infections by watching what she's eating (low/no sugar, alcohol, etc.) because she can't by any other means. cl-cinderkitty from the Gynecology board http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-bhgynconcern has a good deal of experience with yeast infections, she may be able to help as well.

If it is the hormones, have you considered birth control that isn't hormonal? IUD's and cervical caps and diaphragms come to mind first, some doctors are more difficult to work with regarding these methods.

Here are lots of links to articles about yeast infections: http://www.ivillage.com/topics/health/0,,166053,00.html

Good luck, I hope you can find a solution!
