that ure not pregnant? i was on the let's talk about sex board and there was a post w/ many replies regarding still getting ure period and being pregnant. isn't that wut we're brought up to believe is the major sign that ure NOT pregnant? women said they've had their normal period for their first 3mo's of pregnancy. how common is that? i know my sister had lighter ones wen she was pregnant bc she was on the pill and such. it's just even on this board, and w/ friends, and even myself, if i get my period i'm happy and relieved that i'm not pregnant. just curious. thanks!

Yea, that's defintiely right, I've heard from several people (health experts, etc, not just friends) that you can get your period while pregnant. I'm not sure how common it is, though. I think for most people there are so many good indicators of pregnancy (besides missing a period) that even if you get your period you could suspect you're pregnant based on a combination of other things, like breast tenderness, "morning" sickness, etc. Considering how different everyone's body is (some women still get a period, others don't, etc.) you may not experience some of the more obvious signs of pregnancy, so it's definitely hard to say. The best way for me to avoid worry has always been to keep up with birth control. I'm on Depo. so I don't have a period at all, but I haven't gotten pregnant either.

I'm not sure how helpful that is, but I thought I'd share what info. I had. :)

Having periods during pregnancy isn't the most common situation, most women will stop having periods right away. That being said, my sister had a normal start to her first pregnancy, but she didn't miss her first period when she first into her second pregnancy. However, she knew that something was different because a) they'd been allowing pregnancy to occur, and b) her period was a lot lighter and shorter than it was supposed to be. And then she started feeling a lot of fatigue, dizziness, a general something's-not-right kind of feeling.

If you have a normal period that starts when it normally would and is of normal duration and consistency, I probably wouldn't worry about it. If you're using reliable birth control the way you're supposed to, it shouldn't be an issue! If your periods start acting weird and you know that you may have been a little careless...well...then you might wonder.

Hope that helps!
