CM while on the BCP

Hi Everyone,
I have a quick question. Is it normal to have fertile CM while on the BCP? I had a miscarraige earlier this summer and then went onto the BCP. This is my second month on it and I just had lots of fertile CM (sorry if TMI!) last Friday and Saturday. I'm concerned that I may have O'd b/c I had unprotected sex both days. Thanks for your help!
Marl :)

No it isn't normal to have FCM if you are taking the pill correctly. Some members have reported more discharge but rarely FCM. Have you been taking your pills at the same time each day and are you taking meds. or supplements which would reduce their effectiveness? See ‘Taking your pills correctly’ in the FAQs for cautions while taking OCs. If you did ovulate there are two other mechanisms of the pill that provide protection. It thickens the cervical mucus making it difficult for sperm to reach your tubes and it thins the endometrium making it less likely that implantation will occur so you may still be safe. If it was less than 72 hours after the IC of concern emergency contraception would be effective. EC is still somewhat effective for up to 5 days after IC so it still might be an option. If I were you I would talk to my doctor about your situation and be guided by his or her advice. Let us know how you’re doing, ok?
Hugs,
Jill
Thank you for your response and support. I have been taking my pill at the same time every day and that's why I'm confused by the FCM. Prior to my miscarriage I had been on BCP for 10 yrs and never had FCM during those cycles.
It has been 5 days since I saw the FCM so I'm not sure if emergency contraceptives are an option.
I'm also torn because I did want the baby when I had the miscarriage earlier and now, even though it would be an inconvenient time to have a child, it would also ease the pain of the miscarriage. My emotions are all mixed up. I'll probably just end up getting my period on time, but there's just a lot going through my head right now. Thanks again for your support.

I hope things work out the way you want!
