So I go in on Monday to hopefully get a non-hormonal IUD inserted!! I am excited and nervous.
But I have a question (several actually): Has anyone ever heard of a Silver IUD? When I was talking to the nurse to set up the apt, she mentioned not only a copper IUD, mirena type IUD, but also a silver IUD.. She didn't tell me too much more info, but said the doctor would be able to tell me more this coming Monday.
Also, can I use a tampon right after I have the IUD inserted? I mean, I've read here that you can have sex that same day if you feel up to it..but what about tampons? I don't use pads normally..and that would mean I should go buy some before going to the apt
Also, does anyone know what percentage of people who use an IUD get uterin scaring?
I am sure I have more questions, I just can't think of them right now. I am so excited to have birth control that I don't really have to think about, but I am also nervous.

One of the very first IUDs was 2 silver rings, but I’m sure that’s not what you are talking about. You’re still in Finland, right? Doctors in Finland and Hungary were working on a copper-silver IUD. This extract describes the European trial of a ‘Nova-T 380, a novel copper–silver IUD’

You might want to take some Ibuprofen before you go to reduce any discomfort. I would think you could use a tampon immediately afterward but I dont know for sure. One of our IUD users will be able to tell you. Please let us know how your insertion goes and details of what you have inserted and if the Mfg. has a web site.
Good luck and hugs!

I've actually never heard of a silver IUD either; Jill is really well informed though, she has probably provided you with some rather accurate information.
When I had my IUD inserted, I was about a week away from getting my period and I used tampons at that time. I didn't spot from insertion, but if I had I don't think I would have had any heasitation to use a light-usage tampon. You can use them in every other part of your cycle so I don't see why you couldn't use one right after insertion.
As far as uterine scaring goes, I'm unsure of the exact percentage of women who will/have experienced it. However, I think I remember reading somewhere that it was *very* minimal; like under 20%. If you think about it, your IUD should never touch your uterine walls anyway. It is inserted through the cervix and then is supposed to stay right in the middle of your uterus. If it gets too close to the uterine walls, it can perforate so I'm sure that it should rarely cause scarring.
HTH!

OOPS! Sorry if I caused any confusion, but that "20%" was meant to be a "2%". Sorry for the typo girls (and thanks to Jill for pointing it out to me)!
