I am new to this board. Let me give a brief history so that you all can better answer my question. I am a 28 year old female with 2 children. I do not drink nor smoke and am currently in a sexual relationship with one man. My question is: Is there anything wrong with Mirena? I was at the gyn last week and was set on getting back on the pill (it has been almost 6 months since I was off) but when she told me about Mirena my first response was oh heck no because of my opinion based on what I heard from older generations. But after having her talk to me, I am considering about getting it, but while I wait for it to come back from being ordered I wnated to get some opinions on what you all think about it.

Thanks

I've had it a year and am overall happy with it.It's good for 5 years and that's a plus....And for some women it can cause periods to stop (after 1 year's use)...that's OK with me.I'm 33 with one child and my dr won't put me on other birth control options because of chronic high blood pressure problems...It was slightly umcomfy being put in (lots of pressure and cramping)...The first few months I was on it I had periods that lasted 2 weeks and came 2 weeks apart...After that they got lighter and somewhat back to normal....Later my periods went to being only 3 days of slight spotting....I went 10 weeks without having a period (and was not pregnant)...The period after that lasted a little over 2 weeks--mostly heavy spotting.Like I said,I'm overall happy with it....good luck if you choose it.

Mirena is wonderful! After years of side effects from every pill I tried, I got a Mirena IUD not too long ago. I've had no side effects and no problems of any kind, and it's been so nice being free from having to remember to take pills every day. Insertion wasn't bad at all either, just be sure to take 800 mg. of ibuprofen before you go.
