Spotting or Implantation???

Okay first of all let me tell you that I am on Marvelon and I have been on it for 5-6 months. Before that I was on Ortho-Tri Cyclen but had to change because I began (on a monthly basis) to start bleeding a week early, so I'd bleed for 2 weeks straight. So once started on Marvelon I have had NO problems whatsoever.

Onto my situation... I started a new pack of pills on July 25 (Sunday) after just finishing my regular A.F. the week previous (Started on July 20th at night). My bf and I had I.C. July 24 and 25 (still at the end of my period), as well as July 31 and August 1. I am expecting A.F. this following week, starting Aug 17, however this morning when I woke up and had breakfast, just before heading out to work I noticed a spot of blood in my underwear (a bit larger than the size of a loonie). I at first thought that I was getting my period again like what happened with the Ortho-Tri Cyclen, however there hasn't been any more since.

NOTE - The month before I went two packs of pills in row with no problem, skipping the placebo.

So my question is, do you think this would be spotting or implantation bleeding?

Another note, other than being on O.C. we also use the withdrawl method (I know not effective on it's own, but combined with O.C. should help at least).

Pleast let me know what you all think

Hi myomy5, welcome back!

If you have been taking your pills correctly I think what you saw was probably a little spotting rather than implantation bleeding. If you haven't missed pills, vomited within 2 hours of taking your pill and haven't been taking supplements that might reduce the effectiveness of your pills then you should be protected. Let us know how you're doing, ok?

Good luck,

Thanks very much - I am hoping so at this point in time. I have noticed a little more spotting this evening so maybe that is all that is happening. I just got a little worried after I had no problems going two packs in a row, and now can't even make it through one! I'll just have to wait another week and try not to worry for AF to come.

So has anyone else actually experienced just one or two spots and that's it (for spotting?). Just curious if it's normal to spot just once or twice and that be it.

Thanks guys

Funny thing.

I have been on Marvelon for about 15 months... and have had no probs except that after about 7 or 8 months... my period was delayed by one day (instead of starting on Wed. I began to start on Thurs). Before that-Alesse and it didnt work for me. But everything was fine.

Except this morning (2 days before af) I noticed just one spot of blood. Just a bit smaller then a loonie size. Nothing since! I am sort of freaking out. NEVER has this happened except when I was on Alesse.

First thing I thought was implantation... but I guess its kind of impossible... Anyway just 2 or 3 short days and I will know for sure.

Will keep you posted on the spotting. Good to know I am not the only one! I know when I started spotting on Alesse (after just 2-3 months), the doc changed it and I was fine after.

Good luck!

Me:)

It's always a relief to hear that the same thing is happening to someone else eh?! Well, AF started today - actually a bit earlier than normal. At least I think it's my regular flow, it's definitely not the slight spotting that I had earlier. So hopefully things are okay and I have nothing to worry about.

Let me know how it turns out for you as well.

I started my AF last monday and for about the past 4 or 5 days I just keep spotting. It's really odd... cus I'll be excited that my period is gone and then I get a spot of blood or just brown. My gyno said thats normal for the first couple of months until your body gets used to the hormones. So, you're not alone :)

This wouldn't be happening though still getting used to the hormones as I have been on BCPs for about 2 years now and this one for about 6 months. But either way, it seems to be on the right track.

Thanks for the reply

This is so weird! I was just about to post about the exact same situation. I am relieved to know I am not alone. Anyhow, I have been on OTC-lo for about 6 months, and have NEVER spotted before. So, when I noticed some spotting today about 5 days before AF should show, my first thought was implantation bleeding. Had you ever spotted during the first 6 months? This has just kind of freaked me out, because I have never had any problems with this. Oh, and I have taken every pill pretty much on time (within about 45 minutes of each other) all month, so everything should be okay, right? How common is implantation bleeding anyway? Does it ALWAYS happen?

Implantation bleeding doesn't always happen, I think it gets talked about more than it actually occurs!

Don't forget, all of you who are having breakthrough bleeding and worrying that it's implantation bleeding, that we do have a post in the FAQ's about bleeding. And in that post, it will tell you that your body's hormones change with time. It's very possible for everything to be going just fine, and then one month you can have breakthrough bleeding in the last week of pills. It's a natural hormonal adjustment as your own hormones can change and that will affect how you're affected by the pill. It's no big deal! If you have mid or late cycle bleeding that seems to be happening on a regular basis, contact your doctor to see if a pill change is in order. Don't forget too that missed or late pills, certain dietary changes, and use of some medications (those that warrant using backup) can also cause breakthrough bleeding.

Good luck!
