When can I use no condom?

Hi there ...
I've been on Ortho Tri-cyclen for over a month now .. I just finished my first period while I was on it .. so I've been on it now for an official month .. am I protected enough to be able to have sex without a condom with my bf without the higher risk of getting pregnant? I did start the first pack the FIRST day of my period in July ... so does that make any difference than starting it on the first Sunday of your period .. are you protected faster?
I'm asking because some people say you are protected after a week .. some say a month .. we've been using condoms all month just to be sure .. please let me know ...
Thanks,
Lynne

The best thing to do is check the information that came with your pill pack - that will be the most reliable. Generally though, you are protected after 7 days if you take your pill correctly. So after a month, you are definitely ok. If you are in a monagamous relationship, neither of you have STDs, and you are comfortable with the effectiveness of birth control pills, then you can stop using condoms.
