I just got the Depo shot 3 weeks ago, a little over a week after my last period. (July 12th)
So in theory, my period is supposed to be do anytime now - but what can I expect for my first period on Depo?

Thanks!

It really depends, I went on depo May of last year, and I never got my period, until just before my 3rd shot, 12 weeks later. But then, my period didn't stop for almost 2 months! No good for me, so I'm not on depo anymore, I went back on the pill in March for 2 months, then I stopped for awhile, and went back on the pill almost a week ago. A lot of people that I know have gone on depo though, and absolutly loved it! Good luck to you! P.S. You sons are beautiful! :)

Sorry for using CL hat! Just posting this really quick before I head to bed - I won't do it again I promise! hehe

Anyway, wanted to bump this up and add that I'm just wondering if I should be concerned at all if my period doesn't show up - or if I should be expecting it like normal (even though I've been on the Depo shot for three weeks now)
Before I got on Depo they had to give me a PG test at the Dr's office first, and it came back positive! But they ran a blood test (for those that know - it was qualitive Yes or No) and it came back negative so they gave me the shot. I was still curious though, so I waited a week and tested on my own using EPT - and it was negative, so I should have NOTHING to worry about, right? I'm just curious if I should expect my period to come or if it's normal to be different when on Depo (even if I just started the shot) "Normal to be different" hehe

You really shouldn't have a period on Depo. Depo is supposed to stop ovulation, which will stop real periods, but you might have some bleeding periodically that can be difficult to explain. Women have periods/withdrawal bleeding with the pill because the last week of pills doesn't contain any hormones--the lack of hormones allows the endometrium to shed/bleed. Depo is consistent, though, and there's no break to allow for bleeding. So you may have some bleeding, or you might not, but regular periods should be a thing of the past.

Good luck!

I think everyone responds a little different to depo. I have been on it for about 4 years, and I love it. When I first started, I would have a very light period about every 3 months. Now I have it considerably less often, which is fine with me :) Since depo, I haven't ever had to use a tampon. My period is so light that a thin panty liner is all I need.

I wouldn't expect your period to come at its normal time after your first shot. It might not come at all, it might come in 3 months from now - it's hard to tell. My doctor explained to me that you're body isn't producing anything it needs to shed since the shot stops ovulation. But every now and then, it will need to 'clean itself out', which is why I will have a random, light period now and then.

Good Luck
