tubal ligation poll

I am 35 and do not want children. I recently screwed up my birth control pills and need to start over. This "break" in my regimen has me wondering if I should consider tubal ligation. How many women on this board have had this done and what are your side effects, complaints, praises, etc.

my biggest reason for wanting to quit the pill for good is that it makes me just a little bit pudgier than I care to be and it lowers my sex drive, which is already low to begin with.

please respond and thanks in advance! :0)

Hi,

My two cents, the tubal is not worth it. My experience has been negative all the way. I would say kids/no kids, pudgy is better than the tubal any day. I have had heavy irregular periods, ovarian cysts, extreme pms and symptons to boot. My whole body aches now beofore my period and my bb are so sore it is like being pregnant. I have very bad ovulation pain. I just would not do it.

Now, I know that for a lot of women the tubal is a wonder. They have a certain freedom, but I have none of that. I just got the bad stuff.

Hope this helps.

There are two other methods of birth control you could consider.

The Mirena IUD has an effectiveness that's just as good as sterilization, lasts 5 years, and has a very low incidence of side effects. I've gotten one recently after having side effects on birth control pills and I've been very pleased with it. One of it's advantages is that it can eventually result in having no periods, or at least much lighter ones.

There's also a new method of sterilization that's non-surgical called Essure. Instead of having surgery, they go through the cervix to block the tubes. No cutting is required, there's less risk since it's not surgical, and it's a fairly easy office procedure, but it takes three months to become effective and must be verified before it can be relied on. It's not yet available in all areas. I've been wanting to do this myself, but got Mirena since no doctor in my insurance had yet been trained on the procedure.

i had my tubes tied back in dec. and now i am pregnant.......yes that still can happen, plus my dr thinks i have cysts on my ovaries. so in my opinion something that was suppose to be perment turned out not to be...if i had to all over again i wouldnt have done it.....and a few months ago my bf and i were have u know and when i went to orgasim i felt a pop on the right side then had a very heavy period after that and have problems ever since and now im expecting my fourth child......if i had to over again i would have just stuck with birth control instead. i hope this helps u in any way.go for some other type of birth control let this be ur last option.
