I've heard of those, but have forgotten what exactly they are used for. They are available at Wal-Mart? I've never seen them, I'll have to look harder.

I first used Instead a few years ago. They were only available in a few drug stores in my area then, but now I find them at the grocery store and Target pretty easily so I guess they're more popular now. I've seen prices varying depending on the store, but it's fairly comparable in price to tampons. You can leave a cup in for up to 12 hours so you need less than you would if you were using tampons.

It might just be my anatomy, but I had problems with them leaking a little and always had to use a panty liner with them. They're kind of hard to deal with if you need to change them in a public bathroom, which led me to use them only at night. The nicest thing about them is that you can have sex with one in place during your period and not have any mess. It was also difficult at first figuring out how to put them in place. You have to make sure to read the instructions carefully.

There's also the Keeper, it's not disposable so those are more cost effective, but the way they're shaped means you can't have sex while using one.

I'm a lurker coming out to comment... I used those before I had my second child. I loved them! I always wore a pantiliner with them, just because I am that paranoid of a person... I could only get them at albertson's back then. Come to think of it, I haven't seem them in my area. I didn't know they were still around. It has been 4 years. They were a bit pricy back then too.

As for how easy are they to use...Taking them out is a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it is super easy. It also works well during sex, but you do have to use a back up method with it. It doesn't protect against pregnancy or std's. Hope that helps!

ive been using them for going on 5 months now or so and LOVE em-- alot easier than tampons and just great in my opinion-- relativly cheap-- about the cost of a box of tampons and one box will last at least 2 cycles usually 2.5 to 3 cycles. Like the other posters have said sex is a breeze with em-- DH doesnt even know they are there-- i havent had any leakage problems except when my first cycle but i dont think i inserted it absolutely correct. I recommend going to instead.com and reading the site all over-- it really helped me make my decision-- and they also have a trial pack available on thier site and you can also buy the instead cups in bulk there too. Anyway i love em-- cant believe i didnt find them before now!

Good luck

Hi,

I have used them for 5? years with no problem. You know they’re only feminine hygiene, not birth control right? I like them because my flow isn’t very heavy and tampons seem to dry me out.

I don’t think they were available at Wal-Mart when I started using them. I buy them at Target, and I think that several drug store chains carry them.

My favorite thing is that you can have sex with them in and not make a mess. (I find it’s best to use a fresh one right before for the neatest results.) Dh loves that I use them and wonders why more people don’t know about themJ

Tip, kind of bear down when you go to take them out and it’s easier to get your finger under the rim. The only time I have leakage is if I have a bowel movement when wearing one. Gross, tmi, I know, but that is the kind of stuff that’s nice to know before you try something.

Good luck!

I am WAY behind, because I've never heard of a cup before reading your posts! Sounds great and I definitely want to try them. I have one question. Does the toxic risk associated with wearing tampons too long also apply to the cup?

From what I was reading on their website, they believe there is no risk of TSS because TSS is usually linked with the super absorbant properties of tampons and also with the fibers in them. Since the cups are not absorbant and have no fibers, there is no risk. I'm thinking I will try them too. Anyways, definitely go to their website and check out the FAQ they have on there. The FAQ is pretty helpful.

So, good luck and if you do try them, let us know how it goes! I think I will try them too.
