Had my appointment yesterday...

I knew from talking to the nurse I wouldn't get an IUD yesterday because they want me to come in when I'm on my period (ick) ... but after talking to the nurse, she said just to come in and talk to her - I think my DH was hoping she could give us more information than what I had found - well - that didn't happen. So we talked about what kinds of problems I was having on the pill and what my alternatives were.

She said she would do an IUD (minera - she didn't suggest the copper) if I wanted that she had never had a patient that it went bad and caused infertility on *knock on wood* and she also talked a little about the patch and the ring... I told her I have unbelievably sensitive skin and that I didn't want to do that, and she asked if I would be willing to try the ring... so - I have a ring to try and if I don't like it, or it causes problems, she is willing to do the iud.

While reading over the information stuff she gave me, I'm really not hopeful... I'm trying to go into it with an open mind, but it seems to me its the same thing just in a different location, and I so desperately do not want to go back to mood swings, hurting breasts, no libido .....

Has anyone here had problems with the pill, and switched to the ring and not have any problems? I figure I'll try it for a month an just see how it goes.

I had a lot of the same symptoms you did on combination birth control pills after trying the mini pill, I'm now using a Mirena IUD. It seemed like my symptoms were related more to estrogen. Getting off the regular pills made me go through a personality change for the better just like what you experienced. I don't know how the Nuvaring is, but at least if you don't like it, you still have another option.

I switched from BCPs to the Nuvaring and I liked it a lot. It was easy to use and the hormones levels didn't affect me like they did with BCPs. I had no sex drive while taking BCPs, my sex drive came back quite nicely after I stopped the pills.

My reason for stopping the Nuvaring was because I felt too yeasty. But if I hadn't felt and been so yeasty, I would definately have kept up with Nuvaring. It was so easy! And the amount of hormones was so much lower than on pills.

And now I am waiting until my next period to go and get an IUD inserted. I have just gotten tired of having hormones inside me.

I hope you like the Nuvaring and if not, there is always an IUD option also. Good luck.

I'm a happy Nuvaring user, for the last year and a half. Mood swings and sore breasts should hopefully be less of a problem because the ring has less estrogen than any pill on the US market, only 15 micrograms per day (compared to 20, 25, 30, 35, and even 40). The dosing is consistent, rather than a spike every 24 hours, it's a continuous release, which can help with some of the side effects too. I haven't had any unpleasant side effects, no weight gain, and my periods are light and predictable.

I hope you like it when you get to start using it, but if you don't, don't give up, you know you've got more options out there! And if you have any other questions, just ask...
