I was just reading some of the other posts and there have been quite a few women who talk about gaining weight. I was just wondering - is there anyone out there who HASN'T gained weight after starting the pill???

I'm just wondering if there's any chance that i won't gain any weight since i'm still trying to lose some.

Thanks

I didn't gain any. Weight gain isn't suppposed to be a side effect of modern lower-dosage pills, and for those that it is a side effect, it's only just over 1 lb average. Yasmine is evern purpoted to make one lose weight (again only an average of about a pound). Earlier (so called first generation pills) had weight gain as a real side effect, but for women who are on modern pills they more likely gained the weight through their own habits, the pill is just their scapegoat.

Well, I don't know if the pill is my "scapegoat," but I didn't like food much before going on the pill and suspiciously a few months after started it, I really began to like food too much. Maybe they're not related, but maybe they are. But I did gain 40 pounds over 4 years. And it is much harder to get it off than it should be. I find it suspicious that I started gaining so early in my life - my whole family hit their weight gain moment around their early to mid twenties at earliest. For me, it was at 19, which seems a little young. I could be wrong, but I really think that the pill contributed to my weight gain.

I have been on the patch for about a year and I have not gained a single pound. As matter of fact, I've lost about 5. of course, entering college made me gain about 10 so I'm 5 lbs up but I ASSURE you it wasn't because of the patch. Best of luck;)

I started the Triphasil 16 years ago and did not gain weight. I did not gain weight on Norplant or Necon 1/35 either. For some reason, when I use the patch (Ortho Evra), I do gain a little, about 5 pounds, which is 4% of my body weight. I lose most it on my week off and gain it back during the three weeks that I wear it. My breast size increases by at least half a cup, so I know some of the weight goes there, but some of it is in my belly too. My appetite is stronger on the patch. When I switch back to Necon, I lose weight much more easily.

For me, Necon 1/35 is a better formula for my body than the others but everyone reacts differently. It’s trial and error for all of us.

Good luck in your quest.

hello--

i was on BCP for 6 years (i tried 4 different pills during that time, too!) & never noticed any weight gain on either one. it seems like everyone's experience is a little bit different!

I was on various brands of birth control pills for almost 10 years. In that time I gained 25 or 30 pounds, then took them off again (while still on the pill). I have to attribute it to changing my eating habits - both to put the weight on & to take it off again. Then I slowly put around 15 or so back on, but in a very different pattern - more muscle so I was still way smaller than when I had been at the same weight previously. When I went off the pill last summer, my weight remained unchanged for 6 months - at Christmastime I buckled down to work at it again, got exercising & watching what I eat (I always watch what I eat, but just watching a little closer again - the exercise is really the key for me now)..... I've lost 17 pounds since then! Inactivity is a real killer.

I think there are SOME women out there whose weight is affected by the pill, but not usually to the extent blamed..... lifestyle changes can do SO much more. My 20's (my decade on the pill) definitely had a lot of life changes in it, & it had a lot of weight changes in it too!!!

No weight gain here - well, no weight gain because of the pill. I was on the pill for 5 years and recently switched to the patch. I have gained about 10 lbs in that time, but the pill is not the reason. The reason is that I now have a desk job and get less excercise than when I was a student and worked in a lab - LOL.

I'm 28 and have been on Yasmin for a year and did not gain any weight at all. In fact I think I lost it. The only exercise I do is try to run 2 miles on the weekends (a mile on Saturday and a mile on Sunday). I also walk from the subway to my 9-5 office job in the city. But in conclusion, Yasmin is also good for my acne. I tried Ortho and that did nothing to help my acne.

I didn't gain any weight when went on the pill either. I have been on it about a year since the birth of my daughter and no problems here. I am currently taking Tri-Sprintec the generic for Ortho Tri Cyclen.

Ortho-Cyclen for several years (around 10) no weight gain or loss. Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo at the advice of my Dr., 6 months now, gained 5 pounds, no other changes.
