Hello. Today I just started back on birth control after a negative experience with Yasmin BCP. I have issues with being too sensitive to the hormones in birth control. Well, DH and I were using a more natural approach to trying to avoid but my cycles were out of control, I had intermittent spotting, and my last cycle was 38 days causing great stress with pregnancy tests and just constant worry for about a week. I finally said I needed to go back on birth control for my sanity and because we are not ready to have another child at this point--I just started back to college and our salaries do not give us the ability to pay for another day care bill--one's enough!

Anyhow, sorry to get off subject there....after talking to my doctor, I decided to try the Nuvaring. I wanted something with a loser dose of hormones to lessen my chance for negative side effects. Also, the idea of only having to replace it once a month is great! With my doctor's guidance, I was able to insert and remove it properly so I am comfortable with that. So far so good but it's only been 3 1/2 hours.

Does anyone here have a Nuvaring and, if so, how do you like it--assuming, of course--you've been on it longer than I? Are there any negative effects you've had with it? I still have 2 more samples but want to be sure it's worth continuing before I need to purchase them.

Thanks again!

Well I must tell you that I was totally against Birth Control for a long time until it just got to the point that I needed it. My periods would come every 30-48 days. Never sure when. And when they did come I was in the fetal position for about 8 hours until my perscription medicine kicked in. I was on muscle relaxers and ended up going from 1 pill to 3 pills cause I got to used to it. So I went to my doctor and told her my problem and she suggested the ring because it was more centralized in the body and the side effects would be minimal. The only side effects that I am getting is water retention and increased breast size. Other then that I love it. I know exactly when my period comes and also my moods have been a lot better. The low dose of estrogen is just enough to balance my hormones and make me a happier person. I honestly highly recommend it. Good luck!

i started nuvaring last month - just getting off junel (which, frighteningly enough, my doctor had never heard of!!) i was a bit apprehensive - something that i couldn't see was supposed to work? - but so far i like it - basically, i don't even know it's there. i was nervous that it would get lost up there or it would come out, so i was checking for it every once in a while. i didn't notice any adverse effect - i bit more water retention during my pms week. i took my first one out on Sunday and didn't get my period until today (thursday) - flow seems normal.

i will stay on it another month to see if there are any changes.

does your dr. like it? i was just nervous that it was just the next new thing that the pharmaceutical companies were selling to our drs and we were just the guinea pigs.

what do you think and what does your dr say?

My Doctor highly recommended it. She said the vast majority of her patients loved it and haven't had adverse side effects. I don't think she's used it because, and I could be wrong--didn't ask, she looks like she might be past needing bc. As far as being the guinea pigs....maybe to a certain extent we are. I know before it became more popular, it had been tested on thousands of women and all of the results of that are in that "instruction" paper in the box. I'm sure the drug reps really sold it to the docs but, from everyone I've talked to that has used it, it's worth it. I keep checking to make sure it's there because, like the other poster, I keep thinking it's going to get lost regardless of the fact that I KNOW the vagina is only about the size of the palm of your hand and there really isn't anywhere for it to get lost. I guess it's still a foreign concept to me. Honestly, I had never heard of it before my doc recommended it. So far so good---except, like the regular bcp, I'm having cravings for foods I wish I wasn't craving! Like I NEED ANOTHER pound! LOL!

Just wanted to give you another update:

As I mentioned, this is my first month on the ring. i got on it because my periods were so inconsistent with their arrival date - even on the pill. my doctor put my on the ring to see if it could regular their pattern.

i just got my period on thursday - a little later than usual. and the heaviest flow i have had in years. don't know if its because of the ring or not, but its just a different flow.
