Need some advice on mini pill
| Wed, 08-25-2004 - 11:25am |
Hi,
I currently started taking the mini pill last year when I was BF my daughter. I had no periods until I stopped which was in April. Since then, I've been having a totally irregular cycle, breakthrough bleeding. Other than that, I have been very happy because I do not get headaches with my period like I did on the regular pill.

I'm contemplating switching, but I also want to try and get pregnant next spring so I'm not sure if its worth it and I really don't want to go back on Ortho Cept because of the headache issue.
Any advice?
Cheryl

I think irregular periods are pretty common after cessation of breast feeding as a POP alone will suppress ovulation only about 50% of the time. As you know there is a much narrower time window for taking a POP correctly than with a combined pill. If the time constraints and bleeding aren't overwhelming issues for you and you have only another 6 months or so before TTC again, then it may not be worth it trying to switch. If I ever went back on hormones I would try NuvaRing http://www.nuvaring.com/Consumer/index.asp as it is very low maintenance and has the lowest estrogen of any combined method available in the U.S. Let us know what you decide.
Good luck,
Jill
