Stopped pill, no period.

Ok here is the scenerio, I went on the pill last year for about 7 months. I couldn't stand the side effect I was having, weight gain, moody and all that fun stuff. So, I went off of it for about 5 months or so. Me and my BF were both getting annoyed with using condoms and I am too paranoid to try the pull out method. So, I decided to give the pills another try. Well, I took my first one on July 4th (I did sunday start) and I stayed on them for the whole month of July. I wasn't happy again with the side effects so I went off again. Basically,I just took them for a month but I did finish out the whole pack and I got my period while I was on the placebos at the end of July. I went off the pill and never started back up in August. I haven't gotten my period yet and it's the end of the month. Do you think I may have screwed up my cycle now?? We have been using condoms again and they seemed to have been ok. I didn't notice a break or anything and we only had sex a few times in August. thanks!

Your period can get funky after coming off the pill. I'd say wait a few days, a week, whatever you're comfortable with, and then buy a pregnancy test. Unfortunately the whole thing ends up being a bit of a waiting game. Obviously even used correctly condoms aren't 100% effective (no method is), so there is always that possibility, but coming off the pill, my instinct says that you probably are just gonna have funky periods for a while. But of course, I am no expert, just another chick who's been reading this forum for about a week or so.

Good luck!!

Thanks Susan! yeah, technically I'm probably only a few days late. But I still worry because I only took the pill for a month this time and went right off.

I totally understand. I'd wait a few more days and then test. But if you're worrying now, it's not too soon to buy a test. I personally flipped out very recently because I was experiencing "pregnancy symptoms" and I hadn't even had my period yet. I went ahead and got a test and then my period came right on time!! How silly!!

Anyways, my recommendation is to buy a pregnancy test when you are feeling too nervous to wait anymore. Yes they can give false negatives, but it should still put your mind more at ease. Anyways, good luck with that!! It is definitely very possible that even that small amount of hormones has put your body on a new track. So try not to worry and if you find yourself worrying, why not test!

Good luck,

Hi again! it's weird because PMS symptoms can be very similiar to pregnancy symptoms too sometimes. Ok, I'll wait it out a little longer and then get a test. I hope I'm not pregnant though. Yes, I would like kids someday but I'm such a chicken when it comes to pain!! LOL!!

I am having the same trouble you are. I took Ortho Tricyclen for about four months, but I didn't like the way it was making me feel. I took my last pill July 28 which was in the middle of the package. I had my last regular period on July 13, but I had light bleeding for four days at the first of August. Then I bled a tiny bit on the 16th and 17th. I took a pregnancy test on the 25th, and it was negative. I still haven't had a period, and I am very confused!! Is it normal to bleed during mid cycle because you've quit taking the pill? I have no idea what's going on in my body right now.

I hope everything has worked out ok for you!!

It is normal to have very irregular periods for a few months after getting off of BCPs. Your body is getting used to normal hormone levels instead of the force-fed kind you had on BC. Hope it evens out soon - I know that's frustrating!!

It might be good to take a pregnancy test to find out for sure if you might be pregnant, but irregular periods off the pill aren't uncommon. I've had cycle lengths anywhere from 28 days to as much as 47, and averaging around 35. I never had regular periods in my life though, so it didn't bother me too much, although I tested for pregnancy twice when I had the 47 day cycle.
