I'm waiting on a call back from my Dr., but isn't there a way to stop your period for a month using birth control. Like if you wan't to insure you don't have one on your wedding day, vacation, etc.?

Hi atomic_amy, welcome!

Talk to your doctor about taking your pills continuously, no hormone free week. If you are on a pill that has the same dosage of hormones in all 21 active pills you stand a better chance of skipping successfully. If you try skipping you should be already taking the pill and have your body adjusted to the hormones, which will take about 3 cycles, before trying to skip on them. If you aren't on BCPs and want to delay your period for 10 days or so, ask about progestin pills. Not the POP birth control ones but ones with more progestin in them. Let us know what s/he says, ok?

Good luck,

I am not currently on BC. This is basically what the Dr.'s nurse said:

The Dr. was going to start me on Ortho-something, and call in 2 packs. Not Tricycln, can't remember what she said, I'll let you all know tomorrow if you are interested.

When you start your Sept. period, the Sunday after you start bleeding start your first pack. Take the 21 active pills (in 21 days OF COURSE) at the same time every day and skip / throw away the 7 inert pills. Then start the next pack and take all 28 pills and I should be back to normal and can get back off the pill if I want to. Skipping the inert pills and going on the active pills is supposed to be what stops your period. It DOES NOT PROTECT AGAINST PREGNANCY, I want to stress that if any is reading this planning on taking matters into their own hands w/o a doctor's consent.

God, I hope it works. This is an anniversary trip (married 3 years) to Mexico and I started my period on my wedding night and bled my whole honeymoon the last time we were i Mexico and I'd really love to enjoy it period free!

If this is you first time on hormonal contraceptives taking the active pills of the first 2 packs back-to-back back might work or it might not. It usually takes 3 cycles for your body to adjust to the hormones in the pills and irregular bleeding can be a side effect. Be sure to take your pills at the same time every day as that keeps the hormonal swings to a minimum and reduces the chance of irregular bleeding. Even though you aren't using your pills for BC you might want to read these posts in the FAQ section at the top of the board: 'Common Pill side effects', 'Irregular bleeding anyone...' and 'Taking your pills correctly'. I hope all goes well for you, but if I were you I would take along some Instead http://www.softcup.com/ menstrual cups and your other supplies, just in case… Let us know how it goes, ok?

Good luck,

The pill was ORTHO NOVUM 135. I know I might still bleed but I figure if I am going to bleed anyway that week I might as well take the chance. I really hope it works. I probably will buy some Instead cups but the thought of inserting it and having to take it out grosses me out. I don't like the thought of having to insert my finger that far, maybe I am weird but I just don't like the idea of it. I know I should not be that way, tampons don't bother me but i think that is because i don't have to feel anything with my fingers. I will take them tho, just in case.
