My schedule's off!

Hi all,

Just a quick question about getting on a "schedule" for your period.

After I had my baby, I got back on the pill, and started as you were supposed to, with taking your pills on a Sunday night or whatever it was. Well, it was fine for the first month or so, but now, I'm not getting my period until Wednesday or later in the week, so now it is falling on the weekends. I know the main reason the doctors start you on your pills when they do so that you do get your period during the week so by the time the weekend comes, you're finished with it.

Any suggestions on how I can get back on the schedule? And how do you think I got so off-kilter to begin with? I thought about skipping my "sugar pills" and keep going on the next pack, but I don't know if that would make a difference or screw me up more.

Thanks!

Hi chesterbrooks, welcome!

Periods take a while to stabilize into a pattern on the pill and even then can shift over time. You can move your period by shortening the length of your placebo week by an amount that will keep it clear of weekends. You should not try moving it by going more than 7 24-hour days with out taking active pills. If you do you will loose your protection and need to use back up after 7 days off actives and until you have taken 7 days of active pills correctly. Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Good luck,

Hi there, Jill.

So you are saying that I should start my new pack of pills a couple days earlier than the Sunday that I usually start them? Although, I will be off on the days that I take them according to the days of the week that are marked on the pill package.

That makes sense.

With a new pack you should be able to set the dial to the correct day or label the pills for a different start day. You can probably shorten you placebo week by 3 or 4 days if necessary, but it might be a good idea to change your start by only 1 or 2 days at first if you think that will be enough.

Hugs,

Jill,

Thanks for all your advice. I really appreciate the help.

This is my first "different" board I've been to since giving birth and looking at those boards for so long. I think you can find just about anything out here.

Thanks again.
