Gyno Visit

Hi,

I'm 23 and started having sex about 2 months ago and have been on birth control for 2 months as well. I'm just wondering ... I'm on my last pack of pills (of 3 months) and I have to go back to the clinic this month to get another 3 months ... I've never had a physical from a gyno .. so should I book one for next month when I go get more pills? I'm pretty sure I should now that I'm having sex ... I was just wondering if someone could tell me what to expect and honestly, is it really that bad? Thanks!

i am suprised that they gave you the pills without a physical my doctor won't give out birth control unless you get one every year. if they don't say anything about one you probley should.

I was told that you should be checked out if you're sexually active or over 18. And you're both so yea, I'd do it. I had a pap smear and breast check and everything before I got my birth control. It's not bad at all, my gyno was actually cracking alot of jokes that made me alot less nervous. Don't dread it, it's to make sure you're healthy! :)

Hi Lynne,

I too dreaded the visit last year, but it wasn't that bad at all. I was open with my doctor and told her it was gonna be my first exam, and she was very gentle and understanding. The visit was shorter than I expected. So try to relax, and talk openly with your doctor. It will be over before you know it. I hope you get one done soon, as usually doctors who give out 3 packs in advance, won't give you anymore refills until you get the exam done to check that everything is okay. Good luck!!!

Hi lynne81, welcome!

Since you are sexually active you should definitely have a pelvic to make certain everything is ok and to have a PAP to establish a baseline for comparison with future annual exams. I know you're not looking forward to it but it's over in just a few minutes and it really isn't all that bad. Here is an article on what to expect during a pelvic exam. Gynecological Exam: What Is It Like? http://www.ivillagehealth.com/experts/womens/qas/0,,242103_896,00.html Let us know how it goes, ok?

Good luck,

I'm a huge baby but I'd take a pelvic exam before a blood test any day of the week :) It doesn't hurt at all.

Thanks for the replies! I'm going into the clinic this week or next week to book an exam when I pick up my new packs of pills. I'm a little nervous about the whole thing, but I think it's important I make sure I'm healthy and everything checks out OK. Have a great day everyone!
