Hi erin21st, welcome!

I don't like to be second guessing doctors since I have no medical training. However, this board recommends members not use diet pills while on hormonal contraceptives because the FDA doesn't require supplements to be tested for interaction with BCPs. If the diet pill speeds up your metabolism enough to cause you to loose weight, it might also cause the pill hormones to metabolize too rapidly and lower their effectiveness. In most cases we don't know for sure unless an unintended pregnancy occurs, but why take a chance? Some women do skip periods on BCPS so perhaps that is what is going on. If you are already late you can test to see where you are. If I were you I'd stop the diet pills. If you test I hope you get the result you want. Let us know how you're doing, ok? Good luck.

in my experience with the pill, taking it 30 minutes late was not a problem, and i never got pregnant while i was on it. you should talk to your doctor to be sure, but i think it's possible the hormones in the pill are affecting your cycle in this way. one pill i was on, for example, would give me my period for two weeks every month -- not fun! some pills will react better with you than others, so if this is not pregnancy but just a late period, you may want to try another pill so you don't have to go through this worry again.

Jill is correct, we usually don't recommend that women take diet pills (for any reason, really, not just because of a possible interaction with the pill--they don't work over the long term!), but it may depend on what you took and how it affects the body.

Some women do skip periods occasionally when they take the pill, it's not terribly unusual! It's not too early to take a pregnancy test if you want to find out...

Good luck, I hope everything goes okay!
