Dr prescribed Yasmin

I wrote a month or so ago how i was getting terrible side effect with tripasil and stopped taking it. I went to Dr and asked him about nuvaring. He tended not to like to prescribe it because he claims there have been a lot of reports of vaginal irritation. He wanted me to try Yasmin so he gave 2 months of samples and a prescription if I like it. I have problems with tripasil because I take wellburtin XL for depression and it has gotten rid of my depression but then when I took tripasil it started again. Also I have lost 58lbs in the past year and a half and still trying to lsoe 10 more. As soon as I started the tripasil I got extremely hungry all the time and was craving the worst foods and I gained 5lbs in 2 months of taking it. He also fitted me for a diaphragm and gave me a prescription for that if I don't like the yasmin. I can't imagine wearing that thing during sex. My BF is rather large :) and I can't imagine him fitting in there along with that thing and still having sex be enjoyable. I am starting the Yasmin when i get my next period in a week or so and I am hoping it doesn't screw me up. If it does I don't know what I am gonna do.

Hi meow7030, welcome!

I hope Yasmin works well for you. I wear a diaphragm and DF is also quite well equipped and we haven't had any trouble with him hitting it but we are all different. You might want to give it a try though, just to see how you do. We haven't had any (that I can recall) members report irritation with NuvaRing, though some have reported having more discharge and being a bit yeasty. Let us know how you like Yasmin, ok?

Good luck,

I said this already but these are my side effects..fellow Meow.

Yes, I said it, Yasmine has caused me much grief these last two months.

1- Loss of Libido. When getting ON a birth control pill a good 99% of the time (Sorry statistic made up by me :) ) it is for BIRTH CONTROL; you are obviously sexually active and are taking the initiative to wait till its time to have children. Never would one imagine LOSING their sex drive! I lost mine, for the most part. I have to force myself to "be intimate" where before, I was the instigator.

2-Break Through Bleeding. OH YES! Such a break through it is, let me tell you. I absolutely despise it. It just happened for the first time today and believe you me, I am NOT letting it happen after this, I am going straight to the OBGYN when I get home from my summer house, this is ridiculous.

3- More weight fluctuation than Opra. Okay now, I will tell you all this, if I eat one sandwich, I feel like I am ridiculously obese. If I don't eat at all and my stomach is grinding I look normal. How about that for bum luck? I am not trying to pull an Olsen-Twins fab diet but what else can I do? I am an indie film and theatre actress, I can't be this way, there are certain profiles they keep on you.

4- Discharge central. Alright, before I would randomly get some discharge. I am talking randomly. Now, it is abnormal not to get it. I don't understand why that is.

5- A certain cringing vaginal perfume. Maybe I made it sound worse than it is. But I hate it. I am a neat freak, quite compulsive (its why I got on the pill in the first place, couldn't stop thinking about the WHAT IFS of pregnancy, yeck). I am VERY clean down there, in all regards I take damn good care of HER. Well, as of late my boyfriend has told me that it is a little fragranced and I said it has to be the pill and he of course said, "I don't know, my ex was on the pill and..." Well that's where I told him to shut up because EWW. Well anyway, I want to get rid of this! I am very immuned to Bladder/Kidney infections and I am on a post sex anti-biotic for that but I don't know if that helps.

6- DRY SKIN. As a member of the Sicilian heritage clan I would have to say my family is olive skinned and oily as hell. Well, how is it that I can't keep a happy medium on this pill? My skin is chipping and what do I have to show for it? Loss of libido. There we go, I HATE THIS.

I am sure there are a myriad of terrible side-effects I have left out, oh like how I have to take 2-3 showers a day just to feel human and smell human at that, it makes me precipitate from the armpits otherwise. I just need off this pill I think, I am miserable on it. I don't feel like doing a damn thing and yes, did I mention LOSS OF LIBIDO!?

Well, thanks for listening, G-day Ladies and Gents--Rachel

Ok, hon... I get the picture.

A couple of things here. Antibiotics and hormonal contraceptives can cause a problem. This board recommends using back-up for the time you are on antibiotics and at least 7 days after the last dose. This is because some antibiotics will reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives in some women and there is no way to tell who they will be ahead of time. So, if you are frequently on ABs then… Add antibiotics to the fact that you smoke and a very good case can be made for using method other than hormones for contraception. An IUD might be just the thing if you are in a monogamous relationship. If you aren't then vaginal barriers might work well for you. I'm a dancer and know about the body standards performers are held to. I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for three years and by the end of the second year my libido had disappeared and I had gained a bit of weight that wouldn't come off. When I came off OTC, 27 months ago (who's counting right?) I switched to a cervical cap for my inter-menses interval and a diaphragm for contraception and flow control during my menses. Only a few days after I stopped taking hormones I felt so much more alive and vibrant and my libido came roaring back! And, yes, the weight came off too! Vaginal barriers do take discipline to use correctly and consistently but I love how confident I am in my cap and how well my barriers have worked for me. If you are interested in knowing more about diaphragms or cervical caps see the post in the FAQs about them. You'll let us know what you decide, right?

Take care,

Caps and ect...are VERY VERY intimidating for me. I have a hard time touching myself anywhere near that area other than washing. I only smoke like one or two cigs a day so its not that bad but I see where youre coming from. I wouldn't even know where to being with the caps.
