I have heard about it falling off, coming off in the shower, causing skin rashes, hair loss and that it isn't as reliable as the pill. Where do you where the patch? Is it really noticable?
I've been on the Ortho-Evra patch since May of this year, and to tell you the truth it's been the best contraceptive I've done. I have endometriosis and ovarian cysts and the patch has been the most gentle out of the 4 other brands I've taken(Ortho-tricyclin;Depo- Provera; Ortho 28 ect). Everyone is different, so it's best to really know what your body can take. I hope it works out for you.
I just started the patch 3 weeks ago, actually I applied my 3rd patch yesterday--I wear mine on my butt, switching cheeks each patch. With the first patch, I had 2 days of mild nausea, and a few small red, itchy bumps under the patch when I took it off. With the second week of the patch, I had 2 days of moodiness, and 1 little red, itchy bump when I took it off. I've had no reaction today to the 3rd patch, so I feel like my body may be getting used to it. And yes, there is a little lint ring where you wear the patch, but it comes off with a little body oil after the patch is removed. It seems okay to me, and I'll probably stay on it. I'm still curious how my period will be though. I started it because I had no sex drive with the pill, and this is seeming to bring it back a little, so that's a plus for me too. Don't be afraid of it, just try it...it's the same hormones as in the pill! And if you don't like it, just switch back. :)
I am finishing this last pack of pills up in the next couple of weeks and then am starting on the patch, OrthoEvra. I was starting to gain weight and like Wantahug my sex drive has diminished enormously from the pill. My gyno recommended the patch because it has the lowest amount of hormones out of any bc pills, ring, etc. So I'm anxious to try it and am glad I won't have to worry about remembering to take it every day.
What horror stories have you heard?
Personaly, i can only think of one downfall and that is that by the end of the week it is quite 'linty' around the edges.
