hi all! i posted once before and am continuing my pursuit of an iud. i called a gyno in my hmo network to inquire about the iud and was informed that it would cost $450!!!! yikes! i know that my insurance won't cover any portion of the cost, so i have been thinking about calling planned parenthood instead. i guess i am wondering what everyone's opinion of the organization is, and whether or not you think it would be a good idea. i think i feel a little weird going to a clinic since i do have medical insurance, but maybe it would be worth it if i could save a considerable amount off of the $450. on the pp site it says the iud costs anywhere from $175 to $400. any help would be appreciated!

Hi kitalyn414, welcome!

My experiences with Planned Parenthood have been positive but like anything else the clinics are only as good as the people staffing them. PP does have a means tested scale of prices, so perhaps you can qualify for discounted services. Let us know what you decide, ok?

Good luck,

I had to pay up front & be paid back by my insurance co (100%)...It cost me about $450...I think it was well worth it-in my experience....I got mine @ my ob/gyn office-I only had to pay $10 for an office visit to have it put in....

My health insurance paid 90% of the cost. The IUD was $450 and the Doctor visit to insert it was $170. I also thought it was worth it, but paying all that can be overwhelming, but try to compare it to the cost of other BC. My pills use to cost me $15/month. I have also heard lots of good things about PP.

Good Luck!

thanks for all your feedback! i would be willing to shell out the $ if i knew that my insurance co would reinburse me, but i know that they won't. =( i'm going to call pp tomorrow to talk with them about it.

i know that the iud will be cost effective in the long run, but my copay for trinessa is $9. no matter since i can't stand the hormones anymore. my libido is in the toilet!

both of you paid $450 for the iud... was it paraguard or mirena?

I use PP and they are great! The sliding fee scale is very helpful. I am pretty sure you would have no problems getting a discount. The staff is very good and i really like all the methods they offer.
