I am coming off 1 month free of BC after a few yrs of BAD mood swings, depression, no sex drive, major headaches, high BP, etc, etc, etc, etc... the month off was great! I felt like me again - everything was awesome. I talked to my gyno about an IUD she will only to the minera, but asked that I give either the ring or the patch a short first - just to see. I have extremely sensitive skin, so I went with the ring. I started it on Sunday and for the last 2 days I have felt terrible. My headaches are back,

I went several years on birth control pills and had the same sort of side effects you're having. I kept having doctors tell me, let's try a different pill, wait three months and see and the side effects might go away. It never did and I finally had a doctor who listened to me and decided to take me off anything with estrogen in it.

I'm using a Mirena IUD now without any problems, but before I got it, I was using the mini pill that has no estrogen. All my side effects and mood problems went away immediately on them, except for some problems with breast tenderness that got better in about two months. I also had irregular bleeding that took most of a year to get better. Because I knew I could handle mini pills, I wanted to try the Mirena IUD which has an even lower dose of progesterone. I've been fine ever since I got it and had no problems.

There are some women who do have some problems with the low level of hormones in Mirena though, and if your insurance doesn't cover it, then it's a lot of money to pay if you find out you can't adjust to it. You could try finding a different doctor to give you a copper IUD, or you could ask your doctor about trying the mini pill first as a test.
