I started for the very first time on the Pill on August 22 . I was fine until Sep. 2 and then started bleeding on a daily basis like a light period. Bleeding finally stopped on Sep 10. I just started the placebos in the pack yesterday and today, after 3 days without bleeding, I am starting to bleed again. Now is this my actual period since I am on the placebos or what is going on? Also, if you are taking placebos for a week, how are you protected when you have sex?

Hi mapper71, welcome back!

>> I just started the placebos in the pack yesterday and today, after 3 days without bleeding, I am starting to bleed again. Now is this my actual period since I am on the placebos or what is going on?

I think your bleeding now is your actual pill-period. It can take 3-4 cycles for side effects to disappear when beginning or changing pills.

>> Also, if you are taking placebos for a week, how are you protected when you have sex?

If you have been taking your active pills correctly then you are protected as effectively during your 7 day placebo interval as when you are on your active pills. However, it is important to go no more than 7 24-hour days between active pills or you will loose your protection.

Take care,

So can it safely be said that, once I get regulated, that the day or the day after (which is it?) I start my placebo pills will be the day my period starts? So there won't be anymore wondering of when it's coming?

When you get regulated you will start knowing when you get your period. No one can tell you what day that will be - it'll be one of the days of the placebo pills. It could be the first day or it could be as much as 6 days into the placebo pills. But it can be safely said that you will start to regulate in another month or two and you should start knowing when it comes. However, even beyond that, don't freak out if it's a day or two later than you're expecting. Sometimes it takes a little while to really truly regulate on a schedule. So just keep calm and trust in your pills!
