Exercise & losing Depo weight

Hi! I'm 18 years old and have been on Depo for 3 shots (I'll recieve my 4th next month). Maybe I'm being paranoid about Depo's well-publicized weight gain side effects, but for about 2 months I've noticed my middle being a little more rounded. I seriously doubt that I'm pregnant as I wasn't when I began my shots, have gotten them on time since then, and occassionally take pregnancy tests to sate my other worries about unwanted pregnancies. If this is Depo weight gain, it's really negligible, though - perhaps 2 or 3 pounds but definitely concentrated around my middle (I`ve taken to calling it, rather affectionately, my "spare tire".)
I was wondering if anyone had information concerning how effective regular exercise is at getting rid of Depo-related weight gain and keeping it off. I imagine it would help but I'm not sure, since Depo is slowly released and such a huge dose of hormones. Any ideas, thoughts, information?
Thanks!
Lena
