I have been on mircette for almost six years now. Last fall my insurance decided that they did not want to cover the cost of the namebrand so now I am stuck w/ Kariva. I started Kariva last fall. I proceeded to get nauseaus almost every day and my periods were horrible. As a result I took myself off of this pill. However, folowing a mc in Feb. I am now back on. I am married (and I have endometriosis) so I really do need to be on BC (even though I wish I could be pregnant). This last period was awful, for two weeks before it started I had every horrible symptom of pregnancy. I cramped, got nauseaus, had headaches, and so on. Has any one else had good or bad experiences w/ Kariva? I even took seasonal for a while but that was even worse. Before my MC I never had any of these problems and I was on BC forever. What is going on?

Sounds like your body chemistry has undergone a serious change... I'd say to strike out and start trying other types of BCP and if they don't work, it may be time to look into Nuvaring or perhaps a non-hormonal method. But I'd say, start with trying other types of BCPs. Sometimes your body just decides it doesn't like a particular kind, but it might be fine with another one.

Good luck and hugs!

Thanks for the info. I just moved, so I do not have a gyno down here yet. But i do have a family physician. Will they prescribe BC?

I've never actually had a true gyno, just a doctor - she always did my annuals and prescribed me BCPs. They may wanna do another annual on you before prescribing, but I'd imagine they would!! I'd call up and ask...

Good luck with it!! I sure hope you find something that works better for you...

If you've had an annual within the last year, you can call your former doctor and have them send the results to your new doctor. General practice physicians (internists, family doctors, etc.) can prescribe birth control and do annual exams, usually you can get by without a gyn unless you are having issues that are specific to your reproductive system, like problems with pills, unusual bleeding, etc. I didn't have a gyn for a long time!

Kariva is a generic for Mircette, I'm not sure why you all of a sudden started having problems with it. The hormones should be the same and of the same dose, but it's possible that you were having a reaction to the inactive ingredients. I guess I'm not really clear on what exactly happened, but your regular doctor should be able to help.

Good luck!
