I have recently decided to get put on depo but I'm scared to death of shots but i can't remember to take my pill and i get messed up on it and then it takes me forever to get back right. I was just wondering if it was true that you can get the shot in your hip and what i exactly i should expect from it.

Thanx,

Hi Mimi,

When I was on Depo, my doctor gave me my shots in my hip just above my buttocks. It wan't too painful and she rubbed the area for a couple minutes after giving it to me to help with the injection pain. It really isn't too bad, I hate shots also! It's pretty quick. Hope this helps you.

I am absolutely petrified of shots but I opted for Depo because of the effectiveness rate (99.7%) and how easy it is. I get mine on my hip above my buttock, so I don`t even see it. It`s a very small needle and it lasts for just a few seconds. My hip is usually a little sore for the rest of the day but it goes away pretty quickly (a nice hot bath helps!). They usally rotate which hip gets the shot - right side on one dose, left side the next. It`s really, really not bad.

LOL

you sound just like me! I wasn't going to get on the shot because i also have a fear of needles. and Yes you can get it in your hip and thats where i get mine. i first went on it because of its most popular side effect NO PERIOD! its not always that way for everybody but it takes away menstral cramps and bleeding in most cases... ive been on it for about 3 years now and im only 18....dont fret and when you go to your Doctor ask them all your questions...they are paid to answer them!

good luck

I took depo once, took the shot in my butt, didn't feel a thing, easiest form of b/c. However it made me spot all the time (as I read is common in some people), but it was irritating enough to make me switch to another form of b/c. I just never knew when my period was gonna come.

As for the injection, it's 2 seconds and no pain at all.

The depo injections in the hip area didn't hurt at all, but I remember they had to give me one in my arm once (they didn't have the right needles) and my arm was sore for 3 days! But the injection itself doesn't hurt at all! :) Good luck with depo! I hope it works better for you than it did for me! :)

I have been on Depo for almost a year. The shots aren't bad at all - I would recommend getting the shot in your hip. Then make sure your Dr. alternates hips each visit. My hip was a little tender the day of the shot - but that's it-no big deal. What I would warn you about is the side effects of Depo - do your research & ask alot of questions. It may work for some women, but for most of the women I have spoken to - it has not been a good experience. Good luck & do what is best for you!
