IUD - Weight gain??

I was on the pill for 5 years and had a huge weight gain. As soon as I went off the pill I was able to start losing the weight. Right now I am wavering between the ring and the 5 year IUD (I'm leaning toward the IUD). Has anybody noticed any weight issues with either? Thanks!!!!

I've had the mirena for a little over a year now and I've been at somewhat of a constant weight....now my dr said they have had to remove a few due to weight gain issues....

When I was on the pill, I personally didn't experience any weight gain, other than PMS water retention stuff. But the first couple of months that I have been off the pill (and all hormones) I noticed I would have food cravings just before and at the beginning of my period. The cravings and being more sedentary this summer caused a bit of weight gain..But I think that is just me and not anything else.

If you were to get the IUD without hormones, I don't see why you would gain weight... I haven't had any problems with my IUD so far, although it has only been a week (loving it by the way!) Maybe the Mirena might affect some people because of the hormones, but I really don't about it.

Hi!

I also experienced weight gain with hormonal contraceptives. That is why I opted for the copper IUD (7-10 years) so that I would have no chance of any hormonal side effects. They say that the hormone dose in the Mirena is so low that it shouldn't effect you the same as bc pills and others..but I just didn't want to take any chances.

I have had nothing but wonderful experiences with my IUD, and have actually lost the 15 lbs. that I put on with the pill and patch.

Good luck with your decision!
