Heavy bleeding on Depo

I have had 4 Depo shots. After the 1st & 3rd shot - everything was great. But after the 2nd shot & this latest one - things are horrible. I have always had a little spotting, but this is the second time I have had heavy, prolonged bleeding. In May, the bleeding started as a normal cycle and then went to heavy bleeding w/ alot of clots passing for 6 weeks. And the pain at times was unbearable. Now it's happening again. Very heavy bleeding, lots of clots, severe cramping and back pain. Is it me or Depo? I am considering a Tubal ligation because I cannot handle these side effects anymore. Besides I am 39 & we are finished having children - good idea?

I had the same problem when I was on Depo. You need to call your doctor! It is not good to have heavy clotting and bleeding. My doctor prescribed two weeks of Premarin to stop the bleeding, after that I was fine and never bled again. Take care and let us know what your doctor says and how you are doing!

If you do decide to go the surgical method, I`d really recommend your partner having a vasectomy. It`s far less invasive than tubal ligation, is an in-and-out procedure where there`s no overnight hospitalization, is cheaper, and is less dangerous in the sense that there`s a lessened chance of infection. Let us know what you decide!

Before you make you decision on a tubal ligation or any other surgical procedure, I highly advise you to go see your doctor first and make sure it's not something else. I had the same problems when I was on Depo (it was my 2nd time on it, loved it the first time (I had stopped taking it for about a year or so)). Well my dr. discovered that I have fibroids, that were causing all of the problems. Also you may want to take an iron supplement, if you are bleeding that much you could be anemic.

Keep us posted on what you find out.
